As fun and exciting as this current craze of “Challenges” may be… I would ask why is it that most of us need an ad campaign to motivate to fight a horrible disease… or to simply help our fellow man?
For just about the last five (5) years, I have had the honor of helping a, previously, vital man who, in his prime, came down with ALS in 2003. While I was out delivering one day, a young woman stopped me to find out what I was doing.
“Delivering Organic fruits and veggies,” I replied.
She proceeded to tell me the story of a man that goes by Tempt One.
Tempt One was a very famous and renowned graffiti artist in Los Angeles who had been struck with this horrible disease. The woman told me of how many artists, techies and entrepreneurs were banding together in different ways to help this man and his family.
You see, Tempt is now completely unable to care for himself and requires round the clock attention at a local medical facility. His family is not wealthy and are doing their best to keep up with the bills and to keep Tempt as healthy as possible, as well as in good spirits.
This was a community effort that I could not refuse.
Within days, I was on the phone with his father and ever since then, November 2009, we, LOVEDelivery.com have been donating food to help Tempt as best as we can.
The following is the most recent letter that I sent his dad, along with the response I received:

I have had so many emails recently and have been so busy that I haven’t even had the chance to keep up with my emails and Ice Bucket Challenges :). My answer is yes…pleaase do so, if you wish. IN fact, we would be honored to be mentioned alongside of you and the Love Delivery operation.
Hope all is going well with the operation. Sounds like you have some new help in the office and that is always good. I’m sure that his continued consumption of only organic veggies and fruits plays an important role in his survival along with the continued love of friends and supporters……especially you, Rick, and your Love Delivery Team.We send you many big hugs and wish you continued good health and harmony.
BTW, I will be hosting my annual Tempt One Martial Art Championships this coming Sat., 10/25, at the East Los Angeles Community College, Men’s Gymnasium. It is basically a traditional karate/kung-fu kick-punch tournament and there will be approximately 400-competitors and spectators present. It is a fundraiser for ALS patients. If you have maybe 300 flyers I can pass out for you, I would be glad to do so If you’d rather take a pass, no worries.
The Bottom Line
The bottom line here, and the reason I share this, is not shameless self-promotion or to tell you how good I am… Just the opposite! It’s thanks to you and your business with LOVEDelivery that allows these things happen. It is thanks to your commitment to a better community, a better planet and a better lifestyle that has allowed me to make choices like helping this family. Many of you probably didn’t read as far as our Mission Statement so, please allow me to reprint it here. I wrote this when I started this company in 1999 and haven’t changed a word since. It applied then, it applies now!
